Grand Knight's Message

Brother Knights, we have a busy last few months of the calendar year leading up to the Advent and Christmas seasons. I invite all of you and your families to take part in the many activities our council will be involved in, some for fun, some for financial support, and all to further the goals of the Knights of Columbus.

Thanks to all who helped out at our first swing at Conway County Fair Bingo. Through your efforts we raised nearly $1,000 for our council. I believe this will become an annual fundraising event for us and look forward to improving it in future years.

October is the month of the rosary, and we will sponsor a Living Rosary on October 16 in front of Sacred Heart Church.

In November we will have our annual Deceased Members Mass at the hall on November 10 at 5:00. This is one of the most special events we coordinate every year and I look forward to seeing all of you that night.

In December, our annual Kids Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, December 8 at the hall. A fun addition to that event this year will be the drawing for a winner in the first ever "Live Free for a Month" raffle to raise funds for the kitchen remodel.

And it's catering time! We have three catering events in October and then probably a few more in December, so be ready to answer the call to help out for these very important fundraising events for our council.

Thanks for all you do!

Vivat Jesus!

Mark Hoelzeman, Grand Knight

He was a vital organizer of the Fair Bingo activity in September, and also has come up with the idea of a kitchen remodel fund-raiser "Live Free for a Month" raffle. Natalie and Rich are involved in the Sacred Heart CYM and also the Catholic young adult group "Ignite". They have three children, Jonathan, Jacob and Hannah, and both boys are members of council 5209. Congratulations Moellers family!

Attention All First Degree Members:

Morrilton will be the host site for a Second/Third Degree Exemplification on Sunday, December 15. There have been very few opportunities for our First Degree members to get advanced degrees in recent years, but this is a great chance to get it done right here at home. There is no cost for the member, as you paid for this when you originally joined. Guests are welcome and can pay $10 if they want to enjoy the meal. Details will be in next month's bulletin, but please make plans now to join us that afternoon for a couple of hours. Call Mark Hoelzeman (501-977-4585) for more information or to sign up. Advance signup is required, and the number of candidates is limited. But we want to extend the invite to our own council before opening it up to other councils.

Sometime during the month of October we will begin selling raffle tickets for this fun new fund-raising event. Tickets are $20 each, and the prize will be up to $5,000 for a month's worth of living expenses - covering rent or mortgage, groceries, utilities, etc. All proceeds will be ear-marked for the kitchen remodel fund for the hall. If you want to buy tickets or would like to help sell tickets, contact Rich Moellers at 501-208-2503. Spread the word!

Horseshoe Tournament:

We had a great time at the resurrected Copper Horseshoe Tournament vs. Conway on August 18, and I'm proud to say we were able to keep the trophy on the wall at the Morrilton hall. Ten teams vied for the title, and the Morrilton team of Louis and Mark Hoelzeman were the winners. Conway is already planning to host the next tournament next year.
