Grand Knight's Message
A big thanks to all who helped and all who came out for our annual Family BBQ. We had a nice crowd, great weather, and a really nice time. We all know when the BBQ is over, that means folks are going back to school. I want to give a shout out to all our college-bound members, hoping you all have a great year in school. Stay tuned to what's going on here and we hope you can join in on some event when you're in town. And good luck to all the kids going back to elementary and high school as well. And to their parents!
We had a great time hosting the Copper Horseshoe Tournament against our Brother Knights of the Conway Council on August 18. See the report below, but spoiler alert: We Kept the Trophy!
Our Softball Challenge with our Brother Knights from the St. Vincent council didn't fare as well as it was rained out AGAIN. What are the odds? We likely will not try again this year, but hopefully someday we'll pick a day without rain.
I want to thank our Community Director, Eric Tyler, and all who assisted him in supporting the Luck of the Draw fund-raiser to support our neighbors, the Conway County Center for Exceptional Children. Our council committed to selling 200 tickets and Eric and his helpers managed to sell those and more. The event was very successful and I'm proud that Council 5209 is one of the sponsors each year.
At the August meeting, the council approved a strip and wax of the hall floors. Also approved was taking over the Bingo games at the Conway County Fair. Time is short on planning that, so please consider helping out when called. We will be working Wednesday through Saturday, September 4-7, with short, two-hour shifts for workers. If you'd be willing to work or call bingo, contact me (977-4585) or Rich (208-2503). Team leaders will also be calling for help, so consider which night works best for you. This is an opportunity to raise funds that our council really needs. Thanks.
Keep the council and its members in your prayers, as you are all in mine.
Mark Hoelzeman, G.K.
